È Giovanni Leone che a partire dagli anni ‘80 trasmette al figlio le competenze e la passione per l’apicoltura. Salvatore, ancora adolescente, segue il padre durante i suoi spostamenti notturni tra le campagne e gli agrumeti siciliani, dove Giovanni avvia i primi allevamenti di api. Erano tempi in cui l’apicoltura non era ancora regolamentata dalle norme attuali e spesso il lavoro non razionalizzato come al giorno d’oggi, tant’è che Salvatore ricorda come il processo di smielatura avveniva negli stessi luoghi di allevamento, all’aperto.

Oggi Salvatore è un apicoltore professionista che ha avviato una piccola azienda a Zafferana Etnea, dove ha realizzato un laboratorio apistico progettato secondo i moderni criteri di sicurezza. Il miele prodotto nelle provincie di Caltanissetta, Catania, Siracusa e Palermo, viene qui smielato, invasettato ed etichettato.

In the 80s Giovanni Leone, Salvatore's father, passed on to his son the skills and passion for beekeeping. Salvatore, still a teenager, followed his father during the night trips between the Sicilian countryside and citrus groves, where Giovanni started the first bee farms. Those were times when beekeeping was not yet regulated by current rules and often the work was not rationalized as it is today. Salvatore reminds, for example, that the honey extraction process often took place outdoors, in the same breeding places.

Today Salvatore is a professional beekeeper who started a small company in Zafferana Etnea, where he built a beekeeping laboratory designed according to modern safety standards. Here the honey produced in the provinces of Caltanissetta, Catania, Siracusa and Palermo, is honeyed, potted and labeled.
